While creating opportunities for guests to interact with the people, culture and natural beauty of Bali, properties under the Alaya Hotels & Resorts banner are committed to being responsible members of their host communities and treading lightly on the environment.
Alaya Resort Ubud’s respect for the environment and local community is firmly entrenched in the brand’s vision that conservation, community and commerce can and should be integrated. Alaya’s green efforts extend beyond the operational aspects of the resort to create a positive impact on the community – economically, socially and culturally.
As part of Alaya Resort Ubud’s contribution to help reduce global warming and save energy, a planned two-hour electricity blackout was successfully conducted on 26th August 2019 from 2pm – 4pm. By temporarily operating the entire property without power, Alaya Resort Ubud hopes to set an example and encourage others in the hospitality industry to start making more of an effort to reduce their own energy consumption.
During this scheduled blackout, Alaya Resort Ubud’s employees were encouraged to support the program by continuing to carry out their normal work duties manually. This involved creating an action plan to perform daily tasks without electricity, particularly in handling guest check-ins and check-outs without using the computer system. The engineering and housekeeping departments were also challenged on how to conduct maintenance and clean guest rooms without access to power. In-house guests were invited to participate in this eco-friendly initiative by relaxing at the pool or joining complimentary activities such as making Balinese offerings, cooking and yoga.
The Alaya’s green effort reinforced the resort’s commitment to Tri Hita Karana, a Balinese Hindu lifestyle philosophy that is all about maintaining a harmonious balance between mankind (Pawongan), the environment (Palemahan) and God Almighty (Parahyangan).
