Free Clinic & Kids Activities – Under the banner of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Alaya Resort Ubud recently hosted a ‘Free Medical Clinic & Fun Kids Activities’ for all staff members and their respective families. This was conducted in association with ICC Bali (International Christian Community) on 9 December 2017. A team of doctors screened more than 110 participants by carrying out a series of checks including monitoring blood pressure and diabetes tests. It was an opportunity for everyone involved to discuss their personal health concerns with experts and receive free medication for specific ailments. Alaya Resort Ubud would like to express its appreciation to ICC Bali for supporting this worthy initiative as part of a wider effort to provide essential health care and social support for locals.
Donation Campaign for Mount Agung Evacuees – The ongoing volcanic eruption of Mount Agung has resulted in thousands of people having to relocate to safe zones and sleep in tents as the seasonal rains fall. These evacuees have not only left behind homes and possessions but also their livelihoods. International media attention focused heavily on the temporary closure of the airport, however, very little was said about the villagers who are at the very forefront of this situation.
For some weeks now, Yayasan Bumi Sehat in Nyuh Kuning has provided food and shelter for more than 100 evacuees, including a number of young children. Although these families are coping with the loss of valuable farmland, animals and income, they are all safe and in good health. To help alleviate the burden of caring for this large group, Alaya Resort Ubud recently made a delivery of bedsheets, blankets, clothes, nappies, milk formula, food and other essential items. Committed to supporting those in need, the foundation is also acting as a drop-off point for donations and overseeing distribution to other evacuation sites located across East Bali.
Another initiative carried out by the team from Alaya Resort Ubud was a visit to a group of evacuees currently residing in a temporary camp in Manggis, Karangasem some 25km from the volcano. Together with volunteers from a local cultural group and police officers from Polsek Manggis, fun sessions of activities were arranged for all onsite children. Complete with songs and games, this afternoon of carefree playtime provided some much-needed joy during this time of uncertainly. In the spirit of giving back to those in need, Alaya Resort Ubud staff members also organized a generous supply of donations for the camp that were warmly received.
