A series of Improvements at Alaya Resort Ubud

05 December 2022

Balinese traditional houses, which are known as Rumah Gapura or Candi Bentar, are commonly found in Bali. These houses are characterised by thatched roofs and a bamboo or coconut wood structure. Due to the abundance of these local materials, these huts became a popular structure for the Balinese including having it on the temples.

Anyone who visits Bali will definitely be enchanted by its mystique charm. Within the aesthetically pleasing architecture of Balinese traditional houses, dwells a rich philosophy that Balinese referred to as Asta Kosala Kosali, which means the traditional Balinese method of how to divide space for a house or temple.

The thatched roofs provide excellent insulation, keeping it warm when it’s cold outside and cool during the hotter months. In addition, this enables to save on electricity for either heating or cooling. These thatched roofs are 100% waterproof and typically last between 10-15 years.

Based on Alaya Resort Ubud’s commitment in delivering an exceptional experience and as a leading affordable luxury resort, we recently held some maintenance in replacing these thatched rooftops around the resort including the Pool Bar area, Brasserie Restaurant area, Lobby area, Porte Coche, Dala Spa and The Bale area.
