A Week of Awards and Accolades for Alaya Hotels and Resorts

By alaya Uncategorized

The awards and accolades just keep coming for Alaya Hotels & Resorts, reinforcing that a local brand has the ability to excel alongside international hospitality corporations. The last week of November 2018 saw both Alaya Resort Ubud and Alaya Dedaun Kuta achieved Emerald Accreditations in Bali’s annual Tri Hita Karana Awards. At the same time, Alaya Resort Ubud was also acknowledged with two PR Simpatik Awards, Best Service and Presentation in the Melapa Melapi Awards, an Agoda Golden Circle Award and placement in the Best Latte Art Competition 2018.

Tri Hita Karana Awards 2018
Alaya Resort Ubud and Alaya Dedaun Kuta were both awarded Emerald Accreditations during Tri Hita Karana (THK) Awards 2018. The awards were presented during an official ceremony hosted on 29th November 2018 at the Ksirarnawa Hall, Art Centre in Denpasar. This culturally-inspired event was attended by leading Balinese hoteliers and business owners. The awards essentially recognize significant achievements in incorporating sustainable spiritual, social and environmental principles and practices into business operations. This is Alaya Resort Ubud’s second Emerald Award as a Five Star Property and also a second for Alaya Dedaun Kuta as a Boutique Villa.

Under the Alaya Hotels & Resorts banner, we strive to implement the principles of Tri Hita Karana, which is a Balinese Hindu lifestyle philosophy, into all areas of business. We are committed to adhering to local cultural and spiritual beliefs, as well as trying to make a difference to those less fortunate who do not directly benefit from the island’s tourism sector.

PR Simpatik Awards 2018

In conjunction with the Tri Hita Karana Awards & Accreditations, the foundation also presented PR Simpatik Awards to deserving hospitality employees in the field of public relations. Two members of the Alaya Resort Ubud team were rewarded for their fine efforts. PR Executive – Ni Luh Putu Alit Pratiwi won first place, while Ni Made Jeni Kartika earned second place. These awards are dedicated public relations practitioners in Bali’s hospitality industry for their contribution in advocating the Tri Hita Karana philosophy on a professional and personal level.

The evaluation process involved all finalists answering written tests about their understanding of the Tri Hita Karana lifestyle concept. These results contributed extra points towards the final assessment. The aim of this was to identify winning candidates who are capable of disseminating THK programs, not only within their respective workplaces, but also within local society in general.

Melapa Melapi Awards 2018

Simultaneously, Alaya Resort Ubud was also awarded first place for Best Presentation and runner-up for Best Service in the Melapa Melapi Cooking Competition. This local initiative is one of the highest acknowledgements in Balinese cuisine. By participating in this event, the resort displayed its ability to support Balinese culture through preserving the island’s culinary heritage.

Driven by his passion for traditional Indonesian cuisine, Chef Henry Alexie Bloem, in his capacity as Food & Beverage Advisor, has injected innovation and energy into the restaurants at Alaya Resort Ubud. In collaboration with Food & Beverage Manager Agung Yoga, Chef Bloem has revitalized all menus and motivated the kitchen team to earn recognition in the Melala Melapi Awards. Chef Bloem has drawn on his extensive culinary knowledge and management skills to showcase authentic Balinese cuisine with an elegance that complements the resort’s design aesthetic.

Agoda Gold Circle 2018

Alaya Resort Ubud’s victorious streak continued during a gala event for the Agoda Gold Circle Awards hosted by St. Regis Bali, Nusa Dua on Saturday, 1st December 2018. The resort achieved a top score of 8,9 to claim its winning status.

More than 1,600 hotels and accommodation partners from 33 markets across the world are currently celebrating after being presented with an Agoda Gold Circle Award 2018. Now in its 10th Year, this annual endeavour recognizes elite service and high scoring peer-to-peer customer reviews from the 22 million reviews on Agoda, as well as excellence in pricing and availability.

“Having previously been honoured by Agoda with an Elite Gold Circle Award in Indonesia, this is another first for Alaya Resort Ubud to receive such a prestigious acknowledgment. Only 60 top hotels are presented with this award and it further consolidates our revenue achievements and on-line reputation as an industry leader,” says Dewi Mas, CHA, CHT, General Manager of Alaya Hotels & Resorts.

The Gold Circle Awards give hotel guests a clear indication of the high service quality standards they can expect when they book with these hotels.  Increasingly in this digital age, customers rely upon other peers’ reviews when making decisions about where to stay, so it’s very important that the Gold Circle Awards criteria reflects this.

Ubud Latte Art Competition 2018

Bale Udang Mang Engking Ubud recently joined forces with the Ubud Hotel Association to host a Latte Art Competition on 1st December 2018. The event attracted baristas and coffee loving folk from all over Bali as participants showcased the fine art of pouring the perfect latte. The competition was judged on design, precision and cleanliness.

Coffee friends from all over the island gathered to compete and share a few laughs over some pretty decent lattes. There was lots of local talent on display and Alaya Resort Ubud is especially proud that one of its own baristas, Agus Setiawan from Manisan Bali, was chosen as third-place winner.

Alaya Hotels & Resorts Took Action on World Cleanup Day 2018

By alaya Uncategorized

On 15th September 2018, volunteers worldwide came together to rid our planet of trash – by cleaning up litter and mismanaged waste from beaches, rivers, forests, and streets. World Cleanup Day activities also took place all across Bali on the same day. This was an important first step for the people of Bali to strengthen their commitment and be accountable for the cleanliness of the island.

Alaya Hotels & Resorts lent its full support to the World Cleanup Day program. While the brand is all about creating opportunities for intimate cultural interactions and exposing guests to the natural beauty of each destination, it is also committed to being a responsible host and treading lightly on the environment.

Cleanup activities on the day involved all senior management and staff members from Alaya Resort Ubud and Alaya Dedaun Kuta. The Ubud team focused their efforts on removing rubbish from the banks of a nearby river and network of irrigation canals that feed local rice fields. Meanwhile, the Kuta team joined forces with other hotels in the area and participated in an early morning cleanup of Bali’s iconic Kuta Beach. They managed to fill many bags with various items including discarded bottles, drinking straws, broken sandals and other bits of debris. Long before this cleanup, Alaya Hotels & Resorts has always taken steps to engage the community in long-term environmental initiatives. Even though garbage is an inevitable part of tourism, its existence needs to be managed wisely. Every effort must be taken to ensure that all waste generated from visitors and local people alike does not cause damage or negatively impact Bali’s reputation as a popular holiday destination. This also means that the island’s current landfill system needs to be urgently evaluated to prevent garbage from re-entering rivers and the surrounding ocean.

Alaya Hotels & Resorts respect for the environment is firmly entrenched in the brand’s vision that conservation, community and commerce can and should be integrated. Alaya’s “green” efforts extend beyond the operational aspects of each resort to create a positive impact on the community – economically, socially and culturally. This includes maintaining a productive rice field adjacent to Alaya Resort Ubud as well as having a “living kitchen” onsite to grow fresh ingredients. Alaya is also on a mission to ditch single use plastics.

General Manager of Alaya Hotels & Resorts, Mrs. Dewi Mas, CHA, CHT, is driving the entire team to try and cut down on environmentally damaging resources such single-use plastics. Both properties under the Alaya banner have pledged to eliminate single-use plastics from all hotels by 2018 – and to serve as a leader in the hospitality industry for a plastic-free moment-turned-movement.

This sustainability event was an opportunity to express gratitude for all of the blessings bestowed by God Almighty. It also reinforced the resort’s commitment to Tri Hita Karana, a Balinese Hindu lifestyle philosophy that is all about maintaining a harmonious balance between mankind (Pawongan), the environment (Palemahan) and God Almighty (Parahyangan).

Alaya Hotels & Resorts Continue to Lead the Way as a Premier Hospitality Brand

By alaya Uncategorized

The awards and accolades just keep coming for Alaya Hotels & Resorts, reinforcing that a local brand has the ability to excel alongside international hospitality corporations. In the first half of 2018 alone, Alaya Resort Ubud and Alaya Dedaun Kuta have both been acknowledged with Certificates of Excellence from TripAdvisor.

In the recent Bali Tourism Awards, Alaya Hotels & Resorts also claimed two distinctions that once again have elevated the brand’s reputation on the island. Alaya Hotels and Resorts was named “Bali Leading 5 Stars Local Brand”. Meanwhile, Mrs. Dewi Mas, CHA, CHT, in her capacity as General Manager for Alaya Hotels & Resorts, was recognised as a “Bali Leading Top Hospitality Leader”.

For the fourth consecutive year, the annual Bali Tourism Awards (BTA) were held in collaboration with the Indonesian Travel & Tourism Awards Foundation (ITTA). A gala ceremony hosted on 27th August 2018 at Inaya Putri Bali, Nusa Dua saw representatives from more than 120 tourism companies in Bali gather for an elegant evening of wining and dining. It was truly a celebration of Bali’s best where hotels, resorts and outstanding hospitality executives were rewarded.

During the formalities of the event, Mr. Jimmy Gunawan, CEO of Alaya Hotels & Resorts had the honour of accepting one of the awards on behalf of Alaya Hotels and Resorts. He later expressed, “I am thrilled that we have been recognised as a top Bali hotel in the ITTA Awards 2018. I am also extremely proud that Dewi Mas has been commended for her outstanding work as a hospitality leader. However, this accolade is not the end of an evaluation process, instead it is only just the beginning of a higher responsibility to inspire others.”

Jimmy went on to continue, “Alaya Hotels & Resorts will remain focused on its growth strategy and is committed to exploring new opportunities to further expand the Alaya brand within the region. We are certainly keen to develop more Indonesian 5 Star Hotels and Diamond Villas. Lastly. To my entire team, I want to say congratulations for a job well done. Stay classy and keep inspiring.”

Similarly, Dewi Mas, General Manager for Alaya Hotels & Resorts, added to the conversation. “I personally found this whole process to be professional and motivating in comparison to other initiatives. The ITTA Foundation conducted an extremely thorough interview and assessment of my managerial career over the past 10 years. I am very fortunate to be the recipient of this prestigious award as Bali Leading Top Hospitality Leader. It also most encouraging that Alaya Hotels and Resorts was identified as an outstanding local property. I am confident that Alaya Hotels & Resorts will stand behind it commitment to provide the highest standards of service and continue to deliver exceptional guest experiences at both properties under its corporate banner.”

The Alert Level of Mount Agung Volcano Has Been Downgraded from Level Four to Level Three.

By alaya Uncategorized

Mount Agung activity has decreased steadily over past weeks says Centre for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation spokesman Mr. Kasbani. The exclusion zone surrounding Mount Agung has been reduced – now only 4 kilometer radius is within hazard zone which means that evacuees can now return back to their homes.

Centre for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation spokesman says he hopes Mount Agung activity will continue to decrease. Evacuees from previeously affected villages have been advised of Mount Agung status change and assisted by BPBD to all return to their respective homes. Mr. Kasbani says Mount Agung status downgrade is purely as a result of decrease in volcano activity, therefore anything outside the new 4 kilometre exclusion zone is now safe.

Centre for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation will continue to monitor Mount Agung activity and subsequently downgrade the level further until back to normal.

Bali Tourism Board praises all parties involved in assisting all evacuees to return home.
