Mount Agung Alert Level Downgraded

The alert level for the Mount Agung volcano has been downgraded from level four to level three.

Mount Agung activity has decreased steadily over past 6 days says Centre for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation spokesman Mr. Kasbani. The evacuation zone surrounding Mount Agung has been reduced – now only six villages within the red zone.

Centre for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation spokesman says he hopes Mount Agung activity will continue to decrease. Evacuees from areas other than 6 affected villages will be advised of Mount Agung status change & assisted by BPBD to return if they desire. Mr. Kasbani says Mount Agung status downgrade is purely as a result of decrease in volcano activity and not other pressure, therefore anything outside the new 6-7.5 kilometre exclusion zone – including the holy Besakih temple – is now safe.

Centre for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation will continue to monitor Mount Agung activity and subsequently downgrade the level further until back to normal.

Ministry of Tourism Establishes Hospitality Task Force To Keep Public Fully Informed on Mount Agung

Meanwhile, a Bali Tourism Hospitality Task Force has been formed to fill the role of providing accurate and reliably sourced information on developments impacting on tourism as the leading sector of the Balinese economy.

Established initially to meet the pressing need for reliable reports in connection with potential threat posed by the sudden increase in volcanic activity on Mount Agung, the Task Force operates under the auspices of Indonesian Ministry of Tourism with the head of Bali’s Provincial Tourism Office, AA Yuniartha, serving as ex-office chairman and the head of the Bali Tourism Board, Ida Bagus Agung Partha Adnyana acting as vice chairman.

In order to facilitate access on the broadest possible basis among tourism stakeholders, the Bali Task Force members are drawn from all tourism organizations, major government agencies and key players in the Island’s robust tourism industry.
